Jurgen Klopp announces he’s leaving Liverpool
Liverpool FCLiverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has announced the current season will be his last in charge of the Merseyside club, explaining that he has run out of “energy” for the position.
In a shock announcement on Friday, January 26, Klopp delivered a solemn message to supporters on the club’s X account, in a video explaining his impending departure.
Although he will continue as first-team coach for the remainder of the 2023/24 season, it will be his last one at Liverpool.
“I’m running out of energy,” the German explained. “I’m absolutely fine now, but I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.”
Klopp joined the Reds in 2015, meaning he will be just shy of a decade at the football club as he completes his final season.
In his time, he has secured one of the most successful periods of Liverpool’s history, and certainly their most successful in the Premier League era, winning their first-ever Premier League trophy in 2020.
He has also won the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup at Liverpool. His time will be remembered for the rivalry he forged with Man City boss Pep Guardiola, competing season in and season out for the top of the table.
