Fortnite v8.30 patch completely breaks traps before World Cup qualifiers

The latest Fortnite update intended to solve a number of bugs ahead of the online World Cup qualifiers – but instead it’s caused more issues, with spike and poison traps not working properly.

Released on April 10, the latest patch, v8.30 was eagerly anticipated with plenty of Fortnite fans hoping to see Epic Games revert the controversial changes made in the v8.20 update, which saw the siphon mechanic removed from the default playlists.

Pro players were also hoping for a number of bug fixes and performance issues to be addressed as well as adjustments to the Baller vehicle, with the Fortnite World Cup qualifiers fast approaching – however, Epic confirmed that a nerf has been delayed.

The Baller will be nerfed in the future but will be present for the first week of World Cup qualifiers.

Why are spike traps broken?

The patch notes revealed a bug causing traps to be hidden underneath floor pieces had been fixed, but it turns out that the fix hasn’t actually worked, causing traps to be hidden by roof tiles instead.

Spike traps are one of the deadliest items in the game, dealing 150 damage to players, and this new bug means players will be unaware of their placement in buildings which could have fatal consequences.

A new bug means traps are no longer visible in buildings.

Why are poison traps broken?

Luminosity Gaming streamer, Ali ‘SypherPK’ Hassan, also highlighted that the poison trap item, which was introduced at the start of Season 8, also isn’t working as intended.

After placing his enemy in a box, Sypher placed multiple traps on both the floor and wall and despite audio cues suggesting they had been activated, his opposing player was not dealt any damage.

The discovery of these bugs is extremely concerning with the Fortnite World Cup qualifiers just around the corner – Epic Games have already been criticized by plenty of pro players who claim their current tournament format isn’t competitive.

Hopefully, it should only be a matter of time before these issues are finally rectified.
