Everyone’s Freaking Out That Fortnite Might Nerf Building Materials
Community members have been in a frenzy following the announcement that Epic Games may nerf building materials in Fortnite: Battle Royale.
In regards to the ‘Battle Royale’ genre, Fortnite managed to break away from the ‘pack’ of other games by bringing a unique twist in the form of being able to build various structures with different materials.
With the game being one of the most popular in the world at the time of writing, Epic Games has maintained a strict schedule of updates and patches in order for players to have the best experience possible, and fix any potential issues.
However, on June 21st, Epic Games released a blog post which hinted at the chance that building materials will get nerfed in the future, due to the developer believing that “Not every encounter should have to end in a build-off.”
Following the post, a number of high-profile members of the community voiced their concern with the possibility of such a nerfs, with a collection of opinions able to be viewed below.

Love the Epic team and the game that you’ve built but catering towards the casual player in hopes of creating longevity for newer players is usually the quickest way to destroy the player base. Please be careful with drastic changes, I don’t want to see this community destroyed.

The foundation of Fortnite is so strong and has so much potential. Why fix what isn’t broken. Shotguns and building is literally what hooked millions of us to this game. Building is what makes this game thrive and shotguns compliment it so perfectly.

Fortnite want to put LESS emphasis on building at the end of a game to Win…
Personally I feel a big build-off at the end is the biggest show of skill, resulting in the right winner for a game.
What do YOU think about giving players less mats, resulting in less build battles?

You guys are sitting on a real winner right now, please don’t mess it up. BR’s aren’t meant to be easy games. If you wanted everyone to “have a chance to win” you should have just made a Cod rip-off. People like a challenge. People like the opportunity to improve and win that way

Can’t lie, I do miss the build one ramp and simply trying to out shoot others. However, I understand building is the fundamental aspect of fortnite. If you don’t like it play something else. That’s what I did because everyone and their mothers is an architect now.

Building IS Fortnite. Building is the core mechanic and the most skilled mechanic of Fortnite. It’s the thing that makes Fortnite unique and sets it apart from from other Battle Royale games. Epic must take great care in catering to both competitive and casual players.

Say there’s a server with 100 players and all are insanely good at building, every fight would be a build off. No matter who wins the fight, that team will be lower on mats. The teams not running into any fights that game will most likely win due to the # of mats they saved

Thoughts on the recent @FortniteGame announcement:
-Building is easily the best part of the game
-Fortnite wants to continue nerfing building to “encourage other play styles”
-People who are bad at building don’t need a crutch, they need to learn the core mechanic of the game.— NoahJ456 (@NoahJ456) June 21, 2018

Why is fortnite so successful? I’ll tell you why! It’s simple it is the only battle royal game that allows you to fight for the winning position! Building is the core mechanic that allows me to use so many tactics to turn what would be guaranteed death in my favor! https://t.co/qd1prWLOxO
