LEGO Fortnite has received some love in the new Fortnite update that is bringing Metallica to the popular battle royale, mainly in the form of new game modes: Cozy and Expert.

These two modes offer distinctly different experiences in the survival-crafting mode, with both of them living up to their namesakes by changing the difficulty settings of the game.

To know more about Cozy and Expert modes in LEGO Fortnite, here is a breakdown of each one and what their settings are.

How to use Cozy Mode

The first of the two new modes in LEGO Fortnite will offer a relaxing experience compared to standard settings. Players using Cozy Mode can focus on building, farming, and crafting without having to worry about too big of a challenge.

Combat is still a part of the game, but the enemies you encounter will be significantly easier to take down, putting the focus on creating a homestead in a laid-back setting instead of dominating in combat.

You can select Cozy Mode when creating a new world in LEGO Fortnite. When starting out, you will be greeted by a character named Slumber, who will start you off on your cozy journey.

Here is the level that each setting will be at when playing in Cozy Mode:

  • Enemies – On
  • Enemy Difficulty (new) – Easy
  • Storm-Wild Enemies (new) – Off
  • Hunger – Off
  • Temperature – Off
  • Stamina – Off
  • Player Elimination – Respawn
  • Drop Inventory Upon Elimination – Off
  • Friendly Creatures – On
  • Friendly Damage – Off
  • Villagers – On
  • Power System – Off
  • Village Animals Removed On Elimination – Off

To enhance the cost experience, the most irritating settings are turned off, like Hunger, Stamina, and Temperature. This is to allow you to explore the world without having to worry about outside forces affecting you.

How to use Expert Mode

Expert Mode, on the other hand, is going to give you the opposite experience, challenging you with brutal settings. It is designed to make enemies as difficult as possible, encouraging you to prepare and hone skills before setting off into the world.

Expert Mode is designed to push players to their limits. You will have to master combat, use items wisely, and think carefully before charging into unknown spaces.

As with Cozy Mode, you can select Expert Mode on the World creation screen. When beginning a world in this mode, you will be greeted by a character named Triggerfish to help you set out on a tough adventure.

Here are all the settings for Expert Mode:

  • Enemies – On (locked)
  • Enemy Difficulty (new) – Hard (locked)
  • Storm-Wild Enemies (new) – On (locked)
  • Hunger – On (locked)
  • Temperature – On (locked)
  • Stamina – On (locked)
  • Player Elimination – Permanent (locked)
  • Drop Inventory Upon Elimination – On (locked)
  • Friendly Creatures – On (locked)
  • Friendly Damage – Off
  • Villagers – On (locked)
  • Power System – On (locked)
  • Village Animals Removed On Elimination – On (locked)

The only setting that can be changed in Expert Mode is turning on Friendly Damage. This means players can opt for PvP to increase the difficulty of this already-intense mode.

Player Elimination is also permanent, meaning death is a permanent situation in almost every case and you won’t be able to respawn. The only exclusion is if you have a Totem of Return, which will allow you to respawn if your hearts run out. However, it must be crafted and only has one use per item.
