An Age of Empires pro has lost a tournament match in a matter of seconds after making a monumental mistake in the game.

Age of Empires tournaments are a high-risk environment where pros will make big plays to get ahead of their competition.

This often revolves around using valuable units to accomplish mundane tasks to quicken the pace of the match.

However, a pro player has recently gotten a little too risky in a tournament match, resulting in them losing the game in a matter of moments.

AoE pro loses match in seconds

In a clip that was first streamed on Twitch and then posted on the LiveStream Fail subreddit, we see a match between Yo and JorDan_AoE mid-match.

As everything seems to be going fine, the game suddenly ends, showing that JorDan_AoE won the match, leaving the announcers in shock and Yo in shambles.

After close examination, Age of Empires fans were able to discern that the loss came from Yo using his King to scout the map and getting too close to an enemy castle.

For those unaware: the game mode they are playing on i called Regicide which ends when a team’s King is killed. Pros will often use their Kings in this mode to quickly scout a map, as they are faster than other units.

However, this map features enemy castles much earlier in the game than usual, which it appears Yo forgot about. So he wandered too close to a castle he forgot would be there and was killed.

The responses to the clip have been what one would expect, with one user saying: “Oof, one early king death in qualifiers, one in the main tourney. How did Nili respond to that? Feels like it’s the kind of thing that might get to him.”

And given that the match was in the Nili’s Apartment Cup V tournament, this was a huge blunder to have happen as a professional player.

Despite this, Yo has gone on to win four of his next five Age of Empires matches in the tournament, with the event scheduled to end on January 14th.
