There is a deep and enigmatic narrative to discover in Endnight Games’ horror-survival game, Sons of the Forest. Players are dispatched to save a millionaire who has gone missing in this sequel to the critically acclaimed The Forest, only to wind themselves marooned on the island themselves.
In Sons of the Forest, surviving means not just enduring the weather but also fending off dangerous cave creatures and cannibals. This means you will need a plethora of tools at your disposal to overcome these obstacles.
Fortunately, being stuck on an island does not mean you’re confined to melee weapons as the game lets you have a wide arsenal of weapons up your sleeve, from a handy pistol to a literal guitar. So, here is all you need to know about each weapon and gun’s location in Sons of the Forest.

Pistol | Located on a small raft off the beach on the western coast. The pistol rests beside a dead body offshore. |
Machete | Found on the beach within a deflated red dinghy. Look for scattered dinghies along the beach to locate it easily. |
Compound Bow | Located under a maintenance hatch marked by a green circle on the map. Requires a shovel to access. Found next to a body in the apartment bathroom underground. |
Firefighter Axe | Found under Maintenance Hatch A, marked by a green circle on the map. Accessible with a shovel. Located in a case on the wall at the end of the corridor. |
Chainsaw/ Guitar | Inside a cave marked by a green circle on the map, near an overgrown golf cart. Only accessible with a maintenance keycard and VIP keycard. |
Katana/ Putter | Found in a cave near a large lake, marked on the map with a green circle. Only accessible with a maintenance keycard. |
Revolver | Located in maintenance shaft C, marked by a green point of interest on the GPS. Accessible with a shovel. |
Shotgun | Inside a grave in the northwest corner of the island, requiring a shovel to uncover. |
Crossbow | Marked by a green circle in the northwest corner of the island. Located between shelves in a hydroponic garden room. Only accessible with a maintenance keycard. |
Stun Gun | Located in the same beach cave as the rebreather. Accessed by taking the right path illuminated by a light on the ground, past enemies, and a hanging radio. |
Stun Baton | Found near a stream marked on the map, between a pile of skulls at the base of a waterfall. |
Slingshot | Located at the cave entrance, near dead bodies mounted on spikes. |
Grenade | On the beach, beside a corpse and some supplies. Can be retrieved from a weapon safe. |
Rifle | Can be found on a dead body in a cave which is located on the eastern side of the Snowy Mountains. Requires a Rebreather. |
You will notice that some weapons on the list can only be accessed if you have the keycard, shovel, or Rebreather with you.
Craftable weapons in Sons of the Forest
That being said, there are a few craftable weapons as well that can’t be found on the island and have to be manually crafted:
Crafted Bow
The crafted bow requires Duct Tape, 2x Sticks, and a Rope. The first two items are quite easy to find. The rope on the other hand can be found inside caves, enemy camps, or along the coastline.
Crafted Spear
You will require 2x Sticks, 1x Duct Tape, and a Knife to craft a crafted spear. All these materials are quite easy to come by and can be found on the beach, in forests, or by chopping down trees.
Crafted Club
The crafted club is yet another simple tool that you can craft and use very early on in the game. All you need to craft this weapon is 1x Stick, 1x Skull, and 1x Rope.
Molotov Cocktail
To craft a Molotov cocktail, all you need are two materials: 1x Cloth and 1x Alcohol Bottle. These are quite easy to come by making this a handy weapon to deal with hordes of enemies.
