Black Myth: Wukong’s Whiteclad Noble boss is simple to defeat with this ability

Whiteclad Noble is a major boss fight in Black Myth: Wukong and it can prove to be quite difficult depending on your level of preparation.

Black Myth: Wukong has many bosses, most of which are compulsory when it comes to progression. One of the toughest early boss fights you can find is the Whiteclad Noble which can be found in Bamboo Grove, near Marsh of White Mist Shrine.

Whiteclad Noble has two health bars which can be challenging for beginners, especially when your health is low and your weapon doesn’t hit very hard. However, its moves are quite telegraphic and with patience, you’ll be able to defeat it.

How to beat Whiteclad Noble

The most useful skill that you must have when fighting Whiteclad Noble is Force Unbound. This ability allows you to sprint while charging your heavy attack. The problem with Whiteclad Noble is that it’s quite aggressive. As a result, you won’t get much opportunity to stack up your light attack combos. Force Unbound allows you to charge up your heavy attack to launch your entire might in one blow.

The second useful skill to have is Skyfall Strike. This skill allows you to land a second hard-hitting heavy attack after you have landed a Resolute Strike. The reason why this is so good is because it can stagger the boss. While the Whiteclad Noble does not topple, a stagger will open up a window for you to either heal or deal some damage.

It’s important to mention that you need at least one of these aforementioned abilities to deal with the boss. The boss has two phases and you need DPS, or else you’ll keep dying over and over.

If you lack Spark points, farm a bit, but unlock them before you jump in. Smash Stance is also the best since Pillar Stance takes way too much Stamina and the boss will knock you off every time.

You should also ensure you have the Guangzhi transformation available before fighting the Whiteclad Noble. This is because the transformation has its own health bar and meter. Since the Noble has two phases, you can transform into Guangzhi in the middle of the fight and deal a lot of damage to the boss without wasting any of your own resources. You can use it like a second life in times of need.

Immobilize is an amazing spell to have at your disposal in this fight. This is because you can pretty much stun the boss and deal some significant damage to it. In fact, if possible, you should have one point to Crash, one of the talents under the Immobilize spell. This talent increases the damage taken by the enemy when stunned by the spell and can be effective against the Noble.

Don’t forget to upgrade your Healing Gourd at the Shen Monkey. You should be able to get one upgrade and it’s impossible to miss this one. The upgrade will allow you to use your Gourd multiple times, which will be crucial for the upcoming fight.

Finally, Simian Agility is your best friend against this Yaoguai Chief as it reduces the Stamina cost of dodging. This boss does not hit very hard, but you will often run out of Stamina as it’s very aggressive and will often distance itself from you during combat. Closing in and performing your combos will need stamina and you should put as many points you can spare to this skill.

Whiteclad Noble moves & how to counter them

Here’s a rundown of the Whiteclad Noble’s move list across both phases and exactly how to counter them.

It’s important to mention that in Phase 2, the boss can perform all the attacks from Phase 1 in addition to a few new moves. However, the method to counter them doesn’t change.

Phase 1

• Dash and swipe: The boss will jump in the air and dash at you. It will then turn 360 degrees while balancing its polearm vertically and then dash once again with a swipe attack.
  • Counter: The moment the boss jumps up, perform a side dodge. This is because if you dodge backward, you will get hit by the 360 movement. After the boss performs the 360 movement, side or forward dodge to escape from the swipe attack.
• AoE Water swipe: The boss will occasionally charge its spear and swipe it over the water. This will create an AoE water splash in a circular shape. The attack has a decent range.
  • Counter: Dodge backward the moment you see the boss is charging its spear. It takes a while, so you will have enough time to get away. Use this time to heal or plan your next move.
• Water blades: The boss will occasionally rotate its spear and release a barrage of water blades towards you. The move will finish with the boss charging at you after a short delay.
  • Counter: Keep an eye out for the boss’ hands. The moment it starts rotating its spear is when the Water Blades will appear. The attack is very easy to dodge as you can side-step all of it. Once the Water Blades are over, don’t relax as get ready to dodge once again. The boss will charge at you after a short delay and you can side-dodge the attack.
• Normal Water Swipes: There’ll be times when the Whiteclad Noble will land three consecutive swipes at you. This usually happens when you’re close to the boss.
  • Counter: You can dodge backward to get away from the AoE, even though it’s very small. The problem is the boss can often combo this one with the Dash and Swipe attack. So be careful as you don’t want to get caught in the combo.

Phase 2

• Water Blades: In Phase 2, the Water Blade attack returns once again, but this time the swipes are horizontal instead of vertical. The dash after the blades is the same as Phase 1.
  • Counter: Similar strategy to Phase 1 where you side-dodge the Water Blades and dodge again to escape the dash attack.
• Dash: The boss will rush at you while trying to thrust you with its spear.
  • Counter: Simply side-dodge this attack and you’ll be fine.
• Water Splash: The Whiteclad Noble will slam its spear on the ground and release a wave of water towards you.
  • Counter: Once again side-stepping will protect you from this attack.
• Phase 1 attacks repeated: Finally, some of the Phase 1 attacks such as AoE Water Swipe also exist.
  • Counter: Same as how you did in Phase 1.

As a final note, it’s important to mention that the Whiteclad Noble also hints at the three bells that you need to access a hidden boss in the Black Wind Mountains. As such, pay close attention to the boss’ dialogues after defeating it. This boss also unlocks the ability to upgrade your weapon. So make sure to check out a Shrine after defeating it.
