Cyberpunk 2077 players are stunned as the new Phantom Liberty expansion has turned the RPG into a horror game.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been completely turned around by the Phantom Liberty DLC that finally arrived on September 26, where it’s fair to say Night City got a breath of fresh air with the 2.0 update.

Not only did the 2.0 update bring a ton of overhauls to a number of gameplay mechanics and core game features, but when paired with the Phantom Liberty expansion players can experience almost a completely different game.

The update has also brought new weapons, vehicles, cosmetics, and cyberdecks, some of which players have claimed are “absolutely horrifying” to use. Now, fans are even going as far as to say Phantom Liberty has turned Cyberpunk 2077 into a horror game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now a horror game according to players

In an October 6 Reddit thread titled “Cyberpunk is a horror game now”, one player shared a video from the mission ‘Somewhat Damaged’ in the Phantom Liberty expansion.

During the mission, players are hunted down by an AI-controlled robot, which if caught leads to instant death — reminding them of horror games.

Other players only seemed to agree, with many claiming the mission left them scared ‘sh*tless’.

“Yeah man, I don’t play horror games this sh*t had me sh**ting bricks,” one player hit out. “No lie I was freaking out internally during this whole chapter,” said another. “I had to blast country music to get over my fear during that mission,” a third added.

Many gave praise to the devs, claiming that the atmosphere had them on edge during the mission, although admitted some parts were annoying. “Atmosphere was 10/10,” one wrote. “Really had me on edge, but there were some parts where it was straight-up annoying.”
