EA Sports College Football 25’s payouts have fans enraged about a lost decade of games
EA/ Ohio StateEA has revealed in a new announcement the number of teams coming to EA Sports College Football 25 and just how much players will be paid to appear in the title. After a decade of hiatus, fans have taken offense to how little it took to get the players in the game.
The release of EA Sports College Football 25 has been a long time coming for fans of the NCAA Football series. The EA title was canceled after its 2014 edition due to NCAA legal battles with the developer and college players over payment for name and likeness in the game.
New advancements in those legal battles, and the introduction of rules around name and image likeness hitting college sports, have paved the way for EA to bring back the iconic series. It has been reported for a while that college players appearing in the game will be compensated, however, details around a dollar amount have been scarce.
That all changed on February 22, as EA revealed it would be paying players hundreds of dollars, and giving out a copy of the game, to every player that opts into making an appearance. Fans of the series have become enraged at the low payout, as they believe the only thing between them and the title disappearing for over a decade was just a few hundred dollars.
EA to give players $600 and a copy of College Football 25
EA announced that all 134 FBS schools will be featured in the new title and that players with scholarships on the roster can apply to opt into appearing in the game.
Fans were elated to hear that they would have the opportunity to play in almost any football program in the country but also realized that it really didn’t take much compensation to get players on board with the series.
“$600 and a free copy of the game stole a decade of NCAA football from us… we will never forget what they took from us,” one fan said on social media.
“We lost 11 years of NCAA Football because of $600 LOL,” another fan said.
If all 80 players on every eligible roster sign up to appear in the game, EA will hand out a little more than $6 million in likeness fees alone. Not everyone is expected to opt into appearing in the game and those who refuse will have their spot taken over by a generated character with a different name.
Whether the game will be worth the price of paying thousands of players for their image likeness remains to be seen, however, many fans have already pledged to purchase the game after just seeing the smallest of teasers so far.
