Oranguru has been part of Pokemon Go for a while now, but many players still haven’t found it. So, here are all the ways you can catch this zen orangutan in Niantic’s game and whether or not it can be Shiny.

As an Alolan Pokemon, Oranguru was first introduced to the series in Gen 7. It is a dual Normal/Psychic-creature with a pure Fighting-type counterpart called Passimian.

After its debut in Sustainability Week 2022, Oranguru has made appearances in different events and now it’s getting its own Research Day along with Passimian as part of the Max Out season celebrations.

How to get Oranguru

Currently, the only way players can get Oranguru is by finding it in the wild. You can use the radar feature on the overworld map to see if there’s one nearby, or simply walk around until one spawns.

Due to Oranguru having relatively low spawn rates in the wild, it can be hard to find one. However, during its Research Day, you’ll even have the chance to get more encounters with it by completing event-themed Field Research Tasks. The event will take place on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM local time.

Oranguru and Passimian Research Day

Oranguru used to appear as a hatch from 7km Eggs, as well as a Tier 3 Raid Boss, but due to the current rotations, it’s no longer available in either. Players were also able to get by completing Field and Special/Timed Research Tasks like ‘Catch 10 Pokemon: Slumbering Sands’.

Can Oranguru be Shiny in Pokemon Go?

Yes, Oranguru can be Shiny in Pokemon Go. It made its debut on August 26, 2023, during that year’s Pokemon Go Fest event.

If you stumble across one, you will identify it very quickly thanks to its pink fur, which is usually white. Also, the yellow details will be blue, so there’s no chance you’ll miss it.

Does Oranguru have an evolution?

Oranguru is the only member of its Pokemon family, which means it doesn’t have an evolution and it doesn’t evolve from any other species – which means you don’t need to farm Candy to evolve it.

It may be a standalone Pokemon but it does have a counterpart, the Fighting-type Passimian.
