Skull and Bones: How to change character appearance & emotes
UbisoftAs simple as character creation sounds, it can turn out to be overwhelming due to the many choices available and becomes more stressful if the game doesn’t allow you to make any changes afterward. Luckily for Skull and Bones players, the game does allow you to tweak your looks whenever you want, so here’s how you can do it.
It’s been seven years -and many delays- since Skull and Bones was announced, and after such a long wait, Ubisoft’s newest pirate-themed title based on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is almost here.
In Skull and Bones, players will travel through the Indian Ocean during the Golden Age of Piracy to battle other ship captains in very immersive naval battles in order to become the ultimate pirate kingpin.
If you wanna look sharp during your conquest of the High Seas, you need to know everything about character customization and how to change your appearance in the game.
Can you change your character’s appearance in Skull and Bones?
Yes, you can change your character’s appearance in Skull and Bones. After you’re done with the character creation process at the beginning of the game, you’ll be able to tweak every aspect of your pirate during your travels around the Indian Ocean inside any Vanity Atelier you come across, but you’ll need to do something first to unlock this feature.
How to change your character’s appearance in Skull and Bones
After you’re done with the tutorial, you’ll undock in Sainte-Anne, one of the Pirate Dens in the Red Isles. There you must go south from the dock to a little store called the “Florentine d’Alesso Vanity Atelier”.
Inside the store a woman will offer you the chance to buy new outfits, but also the opportunity to restyle yourself. However, before you can access these options, you must follow a process.
- Go to the Blacksmith Thomas Raferty.
- Complete a bunch of contracts for him.
- Once you finish the “Unwelcome Aboard” contract, he’ll offer one called “Dressed to Kill”, which unlocks the Vanity Atelier services.
- Go to the store and talk to the lady with the hat.
- Choose the option to “Change Physical Appearance”.
- Enter “Recreate Captain” mode and make all the changes you need.
- Select “Apply Appearance” and then “Confirm” to save the changes made.
When you do this and enter the “Recreate Captain” mode, you’ll be able to change everything you need about your character, including its gender, as all the options from when you first created your pirate will be available.
It’s worth noting that using this service has no limits or costs for you, so take advantage of that and play around with some fun styles.
How to buy new outfits & emotes in Skull and Bones
Once you’re in a Vanity Atelier, you can buy any of the clothes or emotes available. Depending on the piece, the cost will vary not just in amount but also in type, as they sell stuff for Silver or Pieces of Eight.
There are plenty of pants, shirts, boots, hats, and belts available, but they tend to be expensive, so choose wisely. Remember you can earn money by completing contracts, plus some of the items might be unlocked as they are rewards for future contracts or you don’t have the right Infamy rank yet, so keep them going.
To equip any of your recent purchases, you must follow these few steps:
- Go to the Vanity Atelier.
- Talk to the person in charge.
- Select the option to “Purchase & Equip Items”.
- Go to “Equipment” and choose whatever you want to equip your character with.
- The item will be equipped automatically.
These Vanity Ateliers can be found in multiple places, and you can recognize them on your map thanks to the long mirror icon.
