How to drop items in Nightingale

Nightingale is now out in the wild and fan feedback in the early stages has been largely positive. That said, there are some design choices that are confusing and dropping items is one of them.

Considering the overabundance of survival games in the ecosystem right now, Nightingale does a good job of setting itself apart from the competition. After a mysterious force brings the 19th-century Earth to the brink of extinction, players are tasked with forging a new life.

To do this, they must travel between realms. This happens via portals, which players can customize using Realm Cards. Those cards dictate what a given realm will look and play like when the player gets there.

Though it has a strong premise and the gameplay is generally fun, there are a few issues. One of the main problems is that a lot of the systems in Nightingale are not particularly intuitive. This extends to inventory management in particular.

Drop items in Nightingale by dragging in the inventory

A recent change has made dropping items out of the inventory a far less daunting prospect. In this instance, players simply need to click on the item they want to remove, before dragging it across to the box titled drop. Release the item in that window and they should leave the inventory and drop to the floor.

There is a lot to like about the game, but there’s no doubt that the developer has some work to do. Splitting stacks of items is still a nightmare, and there are notable problems with the way the game onboards players.

The developer has already rolled out a number of hotfixes, with the game running at version 0.1.0a. Equally, it’s important to remember that the game is in Early Access and a fair distance from the full release, so reserving judgment until a later date is likely a good idea.
