Allowing for extended periods of exploration underwater, the Rebreather is also essential to unlock the Shovel, so getting hold of it early is the best bet.

How to find the Rebreather in Sons of the Forest

The Rebreather can be found in the cave system along the beach on the map’s north side, about a day’s trip from the forest spawn point. The entrance is easily noticeable thanks to some yellow barrels. It’s blocked off by some wooden boards, but these are easily broken with a weapon.

Inside the cave there’s plenty of crates and bodies to loot for resources, but players will want to follow the tunnel to find the Rebreather.

Eventually, a low wall will block off the passage, and players will need to crouch to get past it. After this the cave begins heading down toward a flooded area and a waterfall. At this point, players will need to choose between engaging in combat, or running past the mutant monsters toward a fork.

The path to the left is the one to take. This eventually leads to a large open area. On the right side of this room is another smaller entry, crouching will be necessary to pass through this one too. Once through the entry way, there’s a large body of water with a bright light shining toward the back of it. Head around the edge of the underground lake toward the source of the light to find the Rebreather.

How to use the Rebreather to get out of the cave

Once players have found the Rebreather, they’ll need to use it to make their way out of the cave system again. The body of water has a passage back to the wilderness above, however it’s also home to a nasty shark mob.

Defeat the shark with a Pistol or Spear before heading into the water with the Rebreather equipped, then swim to the underwater passage at the bottom and follow it out to the ocean.

Doing this should guarantee you to safety, and now with the Rebreather with you, exploring underwater to get more resources should be far more convenient.
