How to fix EA’s “account is invalid” error on PS4, Xbox One, PC

Theo Salaun

Over the past week, many have complained about being told their “account is invalid” when trying to access their favorite EA games like Apex Legends or FIFA 20 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and other platforms. Luckily, there’s a simple fix: update your password.

You want to sign in to your favorite EA game and get back to the grind. But, instead of a loading screen, you are met with a “this account is invalid” screen and a prompt to visit EA’s website to resolve the issue.

From how many Tweets continue to pop up with complaints about the invalid account error, it’s obvious that prompt is not enough. That’s where we come in.

According to EA’s help desk, the solution should be easy enough. Whether it’s a problem with the developer’s security framework or a concerted outside effort to breach users’ data, tons of EA accounts have now been locked “as a precaution because of potentially suspicious activity on the account.”

To remedy this, the first and simplest solution is to head over to EA’s website and update your password. EA will then email you a link to reset your password. Once you’ve received that email and followed its instructions, your account should become validated and your games should, once again, be accessible.

If this fix doesn’t work on the first try, customer service recommends that you wait 90 minutes and try again.

Now, if you don’t have access to the email account your EA profile is linked to—you can use this web form and link to a new email address.

Or, if you don’t remember which email you used, then this page can help figure that out.

Finally, if none of the above solutions work, you can contact EA directly (using the aforementioned website link or via Twitter DM) and get the situation remedied with one of their agents.

To do so, you must have the following information on hand: your account’s original email address, all usernames tied to your profile, and the invoice numbers of games you’ve purchased through Origin.

Across PC, Xbox One, and PS4, those solutions should help solve the invalid account error.
