The humble Hunting Horn looks set to dominate the Monster Hunter Wilds meta thanks to the new weapon swap system.

Despite the lack of a release date, hype for Monster Hunter Wilds is reaching a fever pitch after its Gamescom 2024 showing. Outside of new monsters and changes to weapons, Capcom revealed that they’re finally removing the gender-lock on armor.

There’s a tonne of stuff to be excited about and Monster Hunter fans can’t wait to get their hands on the next major installment of the franchise. For some lucky content creators, they’ve already had the chance to wade through the game’s early hours and one of them made a pretty shocking discovery.

Piller of the Monster Hunter community SuperRAD has made a case for one of the series’ most overlooked weapons becoming the king of the Monster Hunter Wilds meta. The era of the Hunting Horn is upon us according to the YouTuber.

In some brief footage that Capcom allowed them to share, SuperRad broke down how the Hunting Horn can be used to break your hunts. Thanks to the new weapon-swapping mechanic introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds the musical maul may become an auto-include for players looking to optimize their runs.

The Hunting Horn is the Monster Hunter franchise’s only dedicated support weapon and as such, it’s less popular than big damage dealers like Greatsword or Hammer. Through carefully strung combos, players can use the hunting horn to play melodies that buff themselves and their fellow hunters.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, these self-buffs will carry over even after you’ve swapped to your other weapon. This means you can increase your own attack, defense, stamina, and more before swapping out to your preferred weapon to whale on your target.

For players concerned with shortening their hunts for speedrunning or farming, this is going to be tough to turn down. Get ready to hear a lot more doots in your multiplayer hunts because, with no perceivable drawbacks so far, everyone’s going to be a musician in Monster Hunter Wilds.
