Riot Games under fire after artists claim Wild Rift art was “plagiarized by AI”
YouTube: League of Legends - Wild RiftGame developer Riot Games are copping heat from fans online after one artist claimed that recent Wild Rift art created for the game was “plagiarized by AI.”
Despite developer Riot Games hoping that Wild Rift would be a massive success across the world, the title has been struggling to maintain a large audience since its launch, particularly in the West.
Two years post-launch, the players and the creators are expressing their concern about the direction of the game in regards to content creation and the esports side of things.
Now, however, Riot is under even more fire from their fanbase after one Wild Rift fan artist revealed that the company plagiarized their work through AI.
The artist posted on Twitter, revealing that their work, as well as other artists, was taken and used by AI without their consent or permission.
“Another artist’s @古熙丶and my works were plagiarized by AI without authority. Currently we are still negotiating with officials. Hope this matter can be handled properly ASAP, so as not to let the artists feel uncomfortable while creating fanarts in the future. Thx for ur help!”
Other Wild Rift fans have flooded the comments, both sharing their support for the artists while also expressing their frustration at the situation.
One user commented, “I’m so sorry this happened to you and I hope it gets fixed soon” while another added, “omg it really was AI and they stole it from this talented person ugh.”
Time will tell if Riot addresses the issue publicly and apologizes. However, according to the artist, it does appear that the devs are planning to fix the issue.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time a video game developer has been accused of stealing art from fans or other video games. Dexerto previously reported how Dr Disrespect’s game studio, Midnight Society, was forced to shut down claims they stole images from CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 teaser trailer.
