Sniper Elite: Resistance is Rebellion’s next entry in the critically acclaimed franchise. Here’s everything we know so far about the plot, gameplay, and when we can expect it to release.

When it comes to the Sniper Elite series, Rebellion knows the best ways to shake up the formula and keep it fresh with each new entry. The last game in the series, Sniper Elite 5, was proof of this.

And now, a brand new Sniper Elite adventure has been announced at Gamescom 2024. Here’s everything we know about the marksman shooter so far.

Is there a release date?

Sniper Elite: Resistance is currently slated for release in “2025” – but there isn’t a concrete release date set just yet.

Rebellion has confirmed the game will be coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. So those who are still on last-gen platforms can enjoy the game when it launches.

It’ll also be coming to Xbox Game Pass on Day 1, as confirmed in the press release by Rebellion.

Trailer

The reveal trailer for the game was revealed during Gamescom 2024. Running for about one minute, the footage reveals a little about the game’s plot, setting, and hugely expansive areas players will be able to snipe through.

Plot

Set in 1944 France, the game’s plot runs parallel with Sniper Elite 5. This means you won’t be playing as series mainstay Karl Fairburne, but instead Harry Hawker.

Hawker has appeared as the secondary playable character for the co-op campaigns in previous Sniper Elite games, but now he’ll be given the main spotlight.

Resistance takes Hawker deep into the heart of occupied France to seek out and destroy key enemy targets. Allied intel has revealed the Germans are building a powerful weapon called the Wunderwaffe. Hawker will work with the French Resistance to put a stop to those plans.

Gameplay & new features

Expect the usual Sniper Elite series trademarks to make a return in Resistance. That means X-ray kill cams and advanced sniping physics are back, bringing flashy substance to your creative kills.

Alongside that, you’ll be able to choose from a large arsenal of WWII weaponry and be able to customize them using a workbench.

Axis Invasion also returns from Sniper Elite 5, in which another player can invade your game and halt your campaign. Alternatively, you can invade them and stop them from finishing their mission.

Rebellion has also confirmed the usual multiplayer modes such as Deathmatch, No-Cross, and Survival will also be returning in large 16-player multiplayer matches.

As for new features, Rebellion is adding a new type of mission called Propaganda Missions. These levels are smaller side stories involving playing as a French resistance fighter as they complete their mission.

Be sure to check out other games seen at Gamescom, such as The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Borderlands 4.
