WWE 2K24 devs remove content after former ECW wrestler threatens to sue
2KA former ECW wrestler forced the WWE 2K24 devs to remove certain content from the game due to trademark issues.
WWE 2K24 is set to release on March 8, 2024, the next iteration of the wrestling franchise aiming to continue the success from recent entries by bringing in even more match types, mechanics, and more.
However, ahead of its release, developer 2K has found themselves in the middle of controversy after a former ECW wrestler called out the company for using her trademarked name.
When it comes to the world of wrestling, the name and branding can be just as important as a move set, in-ring gear, and more.
Former WWE/ECW wrestler Francine took to Twitter to call out 2K for using her trademarked “Queen of Extreme” moniker and assigning it to current WWE wrestler Liv Morgan.
In Francine’s initial tweet, the former ECW wrestler revealed that she had previously gotten her lawyer to email the company in regards to this trademark and that they had still not rectified the matter.
“Hey WWE Games, I have The Queen of Extreme trademarked. Do you need something sent to you guys again from my lawyer?”
When WWE fans began hitting back against Francine for calling 2K out, she once again tweeted.
“To all the ignorant 20-somethings that are trolling me, I’ve used #QueenOfExtreme for decades and paid for the trademark. Which means no one else can use it. It starts with a tweet, then used in entrances and on games, mags, etc. You have to fight for what is legally yours.”
Francine then tweeted out one last time in regards to the issue, confirming that 2K had removed the “Queen of Extreme” nickname from the game and from Liv Morgan’s character.
“They took it down. Good on them! They did the right thing. For those who always support me, I [love] you! All I can say is the block feature was utilized a lot today lol. What’s right is right! Always stand up for yourself!”
