Popular GTA mod is finally coming to GTA Online console players
Rockstar GamesGTA Online fans will soon be able to use one of the most-requested mods on console, as Rockstar’s version of FiveM is inbound.
If you’ve ever sat down and watched a GTA RP stream, then you might be familiar with FiveM. It’s the mod that allows players to host and play on the custom roleplay servers that have become wildly popular over the last few years.
There have been rumors, especially around GTA 6, that Rockstar would start to incorporate the RP elements of it because of how popular its become. That chat only intensified when the Grand Theft Auto devs purchased the dev team behind FiveM.
Well, while FiveM won’t exactly be coming to GTA Online, Rockstar’s version of things will be. That’s according to a report from GTAFocal, who spoke to former FiveM devs about their time with Rockstar.
As per their report, Rockstar’s plan – which is likely to include the public mission creator which was leaked at the end of July – will “be integrated into GTA Online later this year” likely in “early fall.”
That initial rollout is likely to be PC only, with next-gen consoles “following shortly” after that. That console integration is set to help keep GTA Online alive ahead of GTA 6 and its highly-anticipated launch.
There are no concrete details on what the add-on will include outside of speculation that it will allow users to have control over in-game assets and server hosting. Whether or not that would include microtransactions – which have been so important to Rockstar – remains to be seen.
What this would all mean for FiveM is also unknown. The platform is the home of massive RP servers like NoPixel, and it likely won’t be smooth sailing to migrate to a new host.
As for GTA Online and it’s future, this addition would indicate that Rockstar has something new up their sleeve for GTA 6 and are leaving what we’ve had in GTA 5 where it is.
