Rockstar Games’ finances may hold the biggest GTA 6 hint yet

Rockstar Games may have confirmed the development of GTA 6 in their yearly financial records as a report from TaxWatch UK states they’ve received a “ huge increase in claims for Video Games Tax Relief.”

Even though Grand Theft Auto V is still going strong and plenty of players are putting hours into GTA Online, many fans are still awaiting news about the next installment in the series. Although Rockstar has yet to officially announce anything, players have been searching high and low for clues in the current title.

However, one of the biggest hints yet may have come from Rockstar themselves, as their annual financial accounts have revealed – showing that they got a pretty sizable increase in Video Games Tax Relief for 2019 – even though the only game they published was Red Dead Redemption 2.

GTA V was hugely successful for Rockstar but there hasn’t been a follow-up title just yet.

According to a report from TaxWatch, Rockstar received £37.6m in Video Games Tax Relief from the UK government for 2019. To be eligible for this relief, the titles they create have to be ‘culturally British,’ which is a classification that GTA has fallen under previously.

TaxWatch also state that the “claim is believed to relate to the production of the next edition of GTA” even though Red Dead also helped them qualify for the relief by also being tagged as ‘culturally British.’ However, the size of the payout is also “likely related to the production costs of GTA VI.”

Red Dead Redemption was Rockstar’s only release in 2019.

Of course, with Rockstar not making anything known about the existence of GTA 6, it’s unknown whether or not the game is actually in production and TaxWatch’s belief is possibly incorrect.

However, Rockstar did issue a statement to vg247, saying that the tax reliefs have allowed them to create” 1,000 highly skilled and long term jobs across London, Lincoln, Yorkshire, and Scotland.”

There have been a few hints about a possible release from GTA V hints and unconfirmed leaks, a video game site with a history of revealing release dates before announcements does have GTA 6 listed as a 2020 release.

Whether or not GTA VI will be announced, or possibly even released, anytime soon still remains to be seen.
