Arrowhead CEO and Helldivers 2 Creative Director Pilestedt openly refuted the rumors of the studio’s acquisition by Sony.

Speculation about Sony acquiring the studio responsible for one of the most successful gaming franchises of 2024, Helldivers 2, started spreading on Twitter.

Reports suggested that the official announcement of the acquisition would be on the horizon but the CEO of the studio has since denied these rumors.

Fans of the developers had conflicted feelings about the alleged acquisition but were ultimately pleased that the studio would be staying independent for the time being.

Arrowhead CEO denies Sony acquisition claims

An account by the name of kjngamer made a post on Twitter/X regarding the rumors about Arrowhead, saying that they thought the move should happen. However, soon after the post was made the CEO came into the comments to clear up the confusion.

“This is the first I hear of this,” said Pilestedt. “And that’s a good indication that it’s fake. Also, very old logo.”

Commenters below the post expressed concerns about the rumors, hoping they weren’t true. They pointed to other studios, such as Insomniac Games, which had been acquired by Sony and experienced multiple layoffs despite developing successful games like Spider-Man.

“Yeah another studio PlayStation buys, kills, sacks the devs, and finally closes,” said one commenter.

Despite rumors, Arrowhead Studios will remain independent, prioritizing their focus on Helldivers 2. No other acquisition rumors involving Arrowhead Studios or Sony and other companies have surfaced.
