Helldivers 2’s much-anticipated mechs will hit the battlefield “soon”
SonyHelldivers 2’s much-coveted mechs will finally join the fight for democracy sometime “soon,” according to a message from developers.
Mechs appeared in the first Helldivers game, functioning as one-time-use stratagems that, in many cases, could help turn the tide of battle.
As such, players were certain the big robots would return for the sequel. And such hopes were seemingly justified once leaked mech-centric gameplay footage started making the rounds about a week ago.
Developer Arrowhead has now put the speculation to bed, thanks to a brand-new poster that confirms EXO-45 Patriot Exosuits will soon enter the ongoing fight.
Rejoice, Helldivers 2 players, mechs are indeed on the way
In a poster ripped straight from Super Earth, the Helldivers 2 Twitter page announced that the EXO-45 Patriot Exosuits have entered “full production in the factories of Tien Kwan.”
Divers can expect the deployment of mechs to begin sometime “soon,” though a concrete launch day for such an update remains up in the air at the time of writing.
Another unknown is how exactly the mechs will function in Helldivers 2. Should players anticipate a stratagem that works identically to the first game or a fresh take? Hopefully, Arrowhead will share specifics in the near future.
Either way, the community is already ecstatic about the news, evident in responses to the above Twitter post. The comments run rampant with lots of exaggerated spellings of “Let’s Go,” for example. And, of course, countless other replies are just eager for a release date confirmation.
The original Helldivers featured a few different mech types. While the EXO-44 Walker Exosuit packed a punch with anti-infantry homing missiles, the EXO-48 Obsidian was equipped with a devastating pair of 20mm autocannons. Meanwhile, the EXO-51 Lumberer came armed with a much larger cannon for heavier enemies.
Adding the EXO-45 Patriot would certainly help the cause, given the number of times Helldivers 2 soldiers have let the enemy gain significant ground.
