Helldivers 2 players want new medals cosmetic added but there’s one problem

One Helldivers 2 player has suggested a new medals cosmetic idea for the game, and players are obsessed, but many can’t get over the fact that it just doesn’t make sense.
Sure, one of the main aspects of Helldivers 2 is unloading tons of bullets into various bugs and robots – but it’s hard to forget what you’re actually fighting for, especially given all the propaganda posted around your ship and in the game’s initial start-up.
As you’re constantly reminded, Helldivers are the soldiers of liberty, giving their lives for the cause of democracy. Due to this, you’ll get into some epic battles, and it’s only natural for some players to call for a little more recognition, in the form of award medals. However, not all players think it’s the best feature idea because of one major problem.
Helldivers 2 players split over cosmetic award medals
Sharing their idea on Reddit, one user asked the community for their “thoughts on Arrowhead adding cosmetic award medals.” They went on to explain how the devs could include medals for the “Amount of time spending on X planet and it got liberated, how many people you saved, bugs/automatons killed, etc.”
“Would be interesting, just adds a note to other players on your veteran status” added the poster, touching on how many have already unlocked everything once they get to the max level or even past level 20 for the Stratagems.
While many loved the idea of being decked out in medals as a recognition for their services, some players pointed out a key problem with this idea – the mortality rate of Helldivers.
As you’re told at the beginning of the game, Helldivers are extremely dispensable, and when you go down in the game, a new Helldiver is ‘defrosted’ to take your place, meaning medals would be a tricky element to award a player when they’ve got through three or four different Helldivers.
“Technically no Helldiver lives long enough to get awards” commented one user, revealing how tough it would be to award a Helldiver for a battle only for them to die in the start of the next mission, therefore arguably losing that hard-earned reward.
However, one user posted an interesting idea as to how these medals can be achieved: “It’s a company award, like how the cook gets a medal for [an] operation.”
Helldivers 2 has a distinct focus on community, with players collaborating to complete mission, free planets, and stop any threats, so it would make sense to add a community-wide medal that players can show off on any Helldiver they represent.
Whether Arrowhead will be adding in medals is yet to be seen, but we do know some new cosmetic ideas could be coming soon, so there’s always a possibility.
