Helldivers 2 players call for private setting to avoid matchmaking confusion

Helldivers 2 players want a private setting since the “friends only” feature only does so much for matchmaking preferences.

As of now, the Helldivers sequel doesn’t allow players to create private lobbies, which some solo players have found vexing. The title currently features only two matchmaking settings – “Public” and “Friends Only.”

Of course, the latter can work wonders for duos and small groups of friends who don’t want to worry about randoms popping in, though Helldivers 2’s SOS Beacon can disrupt this as it calls in other players for assistance.

One person’s frustrations about getting “kicked” by those who want to play alone has sparked an interesting discussion in the growing community.

Helldivers 2 players request private setting for matchmaking

After being kicked out of games five times in a row by others, a Reddit user issued a PSA to fellow Helldivers players, specifically saying, “Put your games on private if you don’t want others to join.”

The Redditor soon edited their post upon realizing the shooter doesn’t actually include a private function in its matchmaking settings. Regardless, the subreddit’s response latched on to the core sentiment – Helldivers should receive a third matchmaking option.

Helldivers 2 private

“I wish there was a private-private setting, as in not even people on your friends list can join. Sometimes I just want to solo,” said one user in response to the post.

Another Helldivers 2 player said the unfortunate lack of an actual private option is “annoying af.”

It’s currently unknown if developer Arrowhead plans on adding such a preference to the co-op title’s matchmaking system.

For now, though, players suggest that users interested in playing with randoms should just host games themselves instead of trying to join others. In lieu of private lobbies, this could go a long way in helping solo players and those who want to fight for democracy alongside strangers.
