The LoL World Championship finals are set after Fnatic vs Cloud9 semi-final
LoL EsportsFnatic has secured a spot in the final of the 2018 LoL World Championship.
Another one-sided semi-final saw the EULCS champions sweep aside Cloud9 in a convincing 3-0 victory.
The opening game was a quick stomp for Fnatic, an entirely one-sided affair that took just 25 minutes before the C9 nexus fell. In the second and third game C9 put up more resistance, but when it came down to the deciding moments it was Fnatic who came out ahead both times.
Fnatic is now the first western team to reach a World Championship final since the Season One Championship, which Fnatic themselves won.
Their final opponent will be Invictus Gaming, whose 3-0 win over G2 Esports in the semi-finals was even more dominant.
The final will also be a rematch, as Fnatic and iG have already faced off in the group stage. There it was iG who drew first blood, but Fnatic ultimately took the top seed with back-to-back victories over Invictus on the final day.
No matter which team takes the Summoner’s Cup, history will be made. Since 2013, every single World Champion has been a South Korean team. With that streak finally broken, one of these teams will stamp their name on what could be the start of a new era.
A Fnatic victory would see them become only the second organization, after SK Telecom, with two World Championships to their name. Invictus Gaming, meanwhile, are looking to become the first Chinese team to claim the title.
