These retired LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector sets are still in stock at Amazon but there’s a catch

Want to expand your LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series collection, but missed out on grabbing the now-retired sets? Well, Amazon still has stock. However, there’s a catch. These discontinued kits come at a price. 

The LEGO Star Wars sets in LEGO’s Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series are must-haves for Star Wars fans. Not only are the currently available kits in this collection desirable, but they are sure to become extremely sought after once they have been discontinued. Several of these models have already been retired to the galaxy far, far away. 

Of course, even when new, each kit in the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series comes at a price. Indeed, they are some of the most expensive LEGO sets. 

However, once taken off the shelves, the desirability and, as a result, price, of these kits increase, sometimes significantly. Yes, they come at a premium, most notably when their bricks are still safely tucked away in their boxes and packaging. 

Some may deem this unfortunate as these Star Wars-inspired LEGO models were designed to be built and displayed. They offer rewarding building experiences and elicit a feeling of accomplishment when the build is completed. In addition, when finished, they make for magnificent centerpieces. 

However, fortunately for some, there are LEGO Star Wars Collector Series sets of yesteryear that haven’t been unboxed or built. So, those with a desire to expand their LEGO Star Wars collection, but missed out on grabbing the already-retired kits, can do so. You’ll have to find them first, though. 

Fortunately, you needn’t search too long. There are still a couple of these sets available from Amazon. However, there is a catch. You guessed it — they come at a price. 

We’ve rounded up the retired, yet still available, LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector kits. For good measure, we dusted off our trusty calculator to determine how much the prices have increased from when these models were initially released. Here’s what you can expect. 

1. LEGO Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer — 75252

This LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series set is a must-have for fans of the galaxy far, far away. Unfortunately, this kit was discontinued in 2022 following a lifespan of three years. Feeling disheartened that you missed out on grabbing the brick-built Destroyer? Well, you needn’t worry. There’s now new hope. 

Indeed, a few box-fresh examples of this LEGO-reimagined starship is still available at Amazon. However, as this is an extremely desirable LEGO Star Wars model, its original price of $699.99 has increased since LEGO ceased producing it. 

By how much? Well, significantly. In percentage, around 134%. 

However, if you’re an avid LEGO Star Wars collector, you might just want to reach deep into your pockets and grab it while it’s still in stock. It will look great in your LEGO Star Wars collection. 

You’d have to make some space on your shelf, though, or display it as a centerpiece. This detailed LEGO replica of the Destroyer is massive. It measures 17 inches tall, 26 inches wide, and 43 inches nose to tail. 

However, it’s not only great to look at from afar. Viewed from up close, this set is equally impressive. 

In addition, it ships with a brick-built, miniature Tantive IV. Of course, if you’re looking for a larger version of the latter ship, you can always grab the LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary model, which was recently released.  

Comprising 4784 pieces, this LEGO Star Wars set was designed for Star Wars fans aged 16 and up. As such, it has to be one of the best LEGO Star Wars sets for kids. 

2. LEGO Star Wars Y-Wing Starfighter — 75181

Appropriately, this LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series set was released on May 4. The year? Well, as far, far back as 2018. However, its lifespan stretched only 18 months. So, the last time you could officially grab it was near the end of 2019. 

Fortunately, you can still get it from Amazon. However, since it was released, the LEGO Star Wars Y-Wing Starfighter has increased. By how much, you ask? Well, by around 39%. 

So, what can you expect from this set? For starters, it was designed for Star Wars enthusiasts aged 14 and up. While most LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series models were made for adults, this set will allow the younger ones to join in the fun while you click together the bricks of one of the best LEGO Star Wars sets for adults. 

Comprising 1967 pieces, the LEGO-reimagined Y-Wing Starfighter is sure to provide teens with an immersive building experience. In addition, thanks to its brick count, it is endowed with a host of authentic detailing. 

This LEGO-reimagined Star Wars starship features an opening minifigure cockpit, wheel-activated rotating ion cannons, and retractable landing skids. There’s also space for the R2-BHD astromech droid figure that’s included with this kit. A minifigure of Gold Leader, replete with a blaster pistol, is also present. 

The completed build measures two inches tall, 11 inches wide, and 24 inches nose-to-tail. What’s more, it can be placed atop a stand. This undoubtedly makes it a worthy display piece in your LEGO Star Wars collection. 

3. LEGO Star Wars A-wing Starfighter — 75275

The LEGO-reimagined A-wing Starfighter joined the ranks of LEGO’s Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series in 2020. That’s not too long ago. However, you only had until the end of 2021 to grab it before it was retired to the galaxy far, far away. 

But don’t fret. Although a few years have passed since it was discontinued, you can now get it from Amazon. However, as it’s collectible (it was part of the LEGO Ultimate Collector Series, no less), it comes at a premium. The LEGO Star Wars A-wing Starfighter’s price has seen around a 41% increase over the years. 

When released, this 1673-brick LEGO Star Wars kit featured a newly-designed (for that year) removable cockpit canopy, allowing to to place the included A-wing pilot minifigure behind the controls. 

But that’s not all. The buildable starship is equipped with pivoting laser cannons. These items are only some of this model’s authentic details. 

Designed for Star Wars fans aged 18 and up, the completed build measures 10.5 inches tall, 10 inches wide, and 16.5 inches long. What’s more, it comes with an adjustable display stand. It is sure to look great next to your Star Wars memorabilia. 

LEGO has become an investment. There is no doubt about it. However, you’ll have to keep the kit’s box sealed. 

Some might argue, but that’s not what LEGO was designed for. LEGO was made to be enjoyed. Yes, it should be built, played with, and displayed, especially if it’s as spectacular as the models featured here.
