Magic: The Gathering will crossover with Marvel in new multi-set deal
Marvel and Hasbro have struck a deal to bring the famed comics universe to Magic: The Gathering in a new multi-year, multi-set partnership.
Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond is already bursting at the seams after Doctor Who, Fallout, and Lord of the Rings hit the game. The crossover-focused sets have been a massive success for Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, with a dedicated Final Fantasy set also on the way.
Now, Hasbro has announced that WOTC will be bringing Marvel to Magic, which is set to span multiple sets and years from 2025.
There’s very little information surrounding which superheroes will appear, but Hasbro states it’ll be kicking off with a “tentpole Magic set”. When they say tentpole, they mean a full product launch, similar to Lord of the Rings.
This first outing will include “fan-favorite characters”. We assume Spider-Man will be the face of one of these, considering the character’s immense popularity at the moment.
Marvel & Magic: The Gathering launching full sets in latest crossover
Speaking in a press release, Cynthia Williams, President of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Digital Gaming said:
“We are extremely proud to collaborate with Marvel to bring its iconic characters to fans around the world in new ways.
“These tentpole sets will build on the tradition of incorporating beloved fan-favorite characters and elements from world-class brands into Magic: The Gathering.”
Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Comics and Franchise also added:
“Trading cards have always been a part of Marvel’s DNA, so this collaboration takes that experience to a whole new level.
“With the depth that our storytelling and characters bring to the table, we can’t wait for fans to see how the Marvel Universe translates seamlessly into gameplay within these Magic: The Gathering products and sets for years to come.”
With Universes Beyond starting out with massive backlash over limited, functionally unique cards, only to become one of the best-selling sets of all time with Lord of the Rings, it looks as though there’s no slowing down with the crossovers anytime soon.
