MTG brings back classic apocalyptic card for Fallout & here’s where to get it
Besthesda/WOTCOne of MTG’s wildest reprints allows you to destroy land and utterly change the game, and we’ll show you where to get it.
Ravages of War is a classic MTG card with an absolutely devastating effect. Land destruction is one of MTG’s most taboo strategies, and Ravages of War is capable of destroying all land cards at once.
While this card hasn’t been reprinted in a very long time, MTG’s Universes Beyond: Fallout set is bringing it back. We’ll walk you through why Ravages of War is a card to be feared, and where you can find it when Universes Beyond: Fallout launches on March 8.
How Ravages of War works in MTG
Ravages of War is a fairly simple card but with an effect so powerful it can reset part of any game’s progress to zero. For a cost of 3W (three generic mana and one white mana) Ravages of War destroys all land on the field.
While this may initially seem like a phenomenal way to delay your opponents, completely removing their land destruction, it’s crucially important to note that Ravages of War also destroys all land belonging to the player that casts it. In fact, classic printings of the card used to come with reminder text stating ‘this includes your lands.’
Ravages of War is a truly cruel joke to play on all players at the table, but it’s not without strategic uses too. If you are running away with the lead and fear a board wipe or opponents tag-teaming to catch up, dropping a Ravage of War can stall other players’ moment and allow you to grind out the win with what you have on the field at the time of casting.
Why Ravages of War is in Universes Beyond: Fallout
While mass land destruction most definitely isn’t an effect for the faint of heart, and may earn you more than a few dirty looks in your next Commander game, the card is simply too perfect a match for Fallout to go unused. What better way to represent the devastating impact of nuclear war than with this card that removes all previously vital, vibrant land?
