MTG Mystery Booster 2 rights an old wrong with Future Sight

Mystery Booster 2 has seen Wizards of the Coast has been enlivening Magic: The Gathering with high-value reprints, card variants, and creative playtest options. They’ve also finally given fans what they wanted with a new printing of Future Sight, featuring a unique border for the first time.

MTG players know that spoiler season never really stops, with new Magic sets, decks, and other products being announced year-round.

While this has led to many fans being overwhelmed with the constant pace of new teases and releases, the surprise Magic set Mystery Booster 2 unveiled at GenCon has led to a wide array of positive reactions, as opposed to just one more thing to pack the schedule with.

While there is already some negative sentiment surrounding the set, it’s only a result of fans loving its reprints and imaginative designs and wishing it were immediately more widely available outside of conventions.

Among Mystery Booster 2’s high-value reprints like Urza’s Saga and Sensei’s Divining Top, MTG fans have gravitated to a more understated reveal. The classic card Future Sight has returned, but this time it’s finally releasing with the Future Sight border too.

The Future Sight set arrived five years after the card named Future Sight was first printed in Onslaught. The Future Sight set was part of the Time Spiral block, bringing with it cards and designs that had ostensibly been pulled from the future of Magic, many of which have come to pass in the year since.

One of these ‘futuristic’ design ideas was the unique Future Sight border, and Fans have been clamoring for the card Future Sight to be reprinted in this style ever since.

Mystery Booster 2 has finally seen that request answered, and fans on Reddit have been sharing extremely positive reactions to this fun choice. One fan said: “This is a version I’ve wanted for so long.”

Another player compared Mystery Booster 2 favorably to Magic’s ‘un’ sets: “This set is approaching unset levels of memes and I love it so much for that.”

Modern Horizons sets recently have included a single card per set named after a block or set in MTG’s past, including Urza’s Sage and Aether Revolt. Several cards across Magic’s vast libraries share their names with sets, and fans look forward to which names will inevitably crop up in card titles next.

Bringing together Future Sight the card and Future Sight the set years later is a fun variant of this trend, and speaks to the fan-pleasing nature of Mystery Booster 2.
