Minecraft shuts down future Legends updates a year after launch
Mojang / Blackbird InteractiveMojang has now announced that they are shutting down future development on Minecraft Legends just a year after launch.
From its 2009 debut to the current state of the franchise, Minecraft has solidified its position as one of the top survival games available. Although Minecraft Dungeons and traditional Bedrock are among the most played expansions of the classic game, a new gameplay type was released in 2023 with Minecraft Legends.
Players have to gather resources to create defenses, improve buildings, and call troops in Legends’ unique RTS (real-time strategy) gameplay. They must also demolish piglin outposts and protect allied villages from periodic piglin attacks in order to progress in combat with these spawned enemies in Minecraft’s overworld.
Fans of the Minecraft series were first captivated by the game’s mechanics, but their enthusiasm quickly waned as they reverted to the original, more simplistic gameplay of earlier iterations. This has led to the announcement that just one year after the game’s release, Mojang and Blackbird Interactive have decided to shut down all future updates and development for Minecraft Legends.
Mojang stops further Minecraft Legends development
In a detailed blog post, while announcing the final Lost Legends: Snow vs Snouts update, Mojang also provided Minecraft Legends players an update on future development plans of the game. The latest patch brings a brand-new combat style to the game, in which you focus on destroying piglin bases from afar, using an enhanced version of the powerful Redstone launcher.
Compared to its base game counterpart, the launcher you wield in this Lost Legend has a faster cooldown and (de)construction rate for more mobility and greater attack power. There’s a total of nine Lost Legends you can play right now, whether you’re looking for an intense battle or you just want to play as a llama.
Followed by details of the patch, Mojang said, “Since launch, we’ve listened to community feedback and implemented a series of changes and tweaks to make the game better. With that complete, we’re now going to take a step back from development.”
They continued, “While we won’t be releasing any new content (i.e. updates, Lost Legends, or Marketplace DLC) for Minecraft Legends, the fun doesn’t stop here. We’ll continue having a blast playing the game alongside our community because those rowdy piglins are showing no signs of slowing down.”
Mojang has also released a free Bright-Eyed Hero skin item for Legends players to claim from the marketplace now. The devs concluded by saying that they’ll continue to offer tech support to players as well as maintain the current state of the game while the team works on future Minecraft experiences.
