Mos Def, now known as Yasiin Bey, had some choice words about Drake’s music when he was recently approached on the subject.
During The Cutting Room Floor podcast, Mos Def described the rapper’s music as “pop.” He continued, “If I was in Target in Houston and I heard a Drake song, it feels like a lot of his music is compatible with shopping. Or you know, it’s shopping with an edge in certain instances.”

Drake responded to criticisms with flashback Method Man interview
On January 15, Drake shared an old interview conducted with Method Man on his Instagram Stories.
Drake captioned the story by referencing one of Mos Def’s songs, ‘UMI Says.’ “What umi say again?” Drake wrote. “Lemme shine my light king don’t change up now.”
In the interview clip, the Wu-Tang Clan member shared his thoughts about what constitutes hip-hop.
“Hip Hop is a culture. It’s a way of life, the way you dress, the way you talk, the way you walk,” said Method Man. “It’s the breakdancing, rhymes, stage show, DJ, mixing and scratching, the wordplay. That’s Hip Hop.”
“House parties, block parties, rec room parties,” he added. “All that his hip-hop.”
Rapper NLE Choppa also came to Drake’s defense. He wrote in a comment on an Instagram post, “They hate on this man so much it’s ridiculous. Dude catalog more than respectable. He like the [Kool-Aid] man different flavors for each day of the month.”
