Twice make K-pop history with record extending Billboard 200 bow
JYP EntertainmentTwice debuted on the Billboard 200 with their new mini-album and extended a record they previously broke themselves.
Twice debuted in 2015, and nearly a decade later, they’ve demonstrated they are a powerful entity within the K-pop sphere.
Since the beginning, they’ve stormed the Billboard 200, among other charts, on their way to world domination.
With their latest project, With YOU-th, the popular girl group not only debuted high on the album leaderboard but set a new record.
Twice prove to be a force on the Billboard 200 chart
Twice’s With YOU-th debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with an admirable 95,000 equivalent album units. In a surprising move, the album also bows at the summit on the Top Album Sales scorecard with 90,000 physical copies sold.
Even more impressive Twice’s With YOU-th becomes the group’s first No. 1 since their debut nearly 10 years ago. Furthermore, the album extends the record they hold for most Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 for any female K-pop act in history.
With YOU-th deals heavily with a groovy musical vibe, as the group has always done, but “the message is a little bit different,” explained group member Jihyo. Songs like ‘Feel Special,’ in particular, detail how they “were going through some hard times” and “how we were able to persevere through all of that.”
“I think this album focuses on our current state of how happy we are in the moment, after everything we’ve been through,” she added. “I think it also shows our growth and improvement over time.”
On March 16, Twice will descend upon Las Vegas for a one-night-only event. “Let’s celebrate Twice 5th World Tour Ready to Be once more together and make this a night we will never forget,” the band said in a statement.
The concert comes on the heels of the band wrapping up the Latin American leg of their world tour.
