Jalen Hurts shows why he decided to play QB after botched NFL Pro Bowl catch
YouTube: Official NFLEagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts earned the start for the NFC side in Sunday’s Pro Bowl flag football game. His inability to complete “The Philly Special” drew laughter and jokes from fans and teammates.
In the opening quarter of play, Hurts was driving the ball down the field, utilizing his impressive assortment of talent at wide receiver.
Then, head coach Eli Manning decided to throw a trick play at the opposing defense — one that Philly fans are pretty familiar with.
The creative play call has been in the NFL for decades. But when the Eagles perfectly executed it in Super Bowl LII vs. the Patriots, it affectionately became known as “The Philly Special.” Though Hurts didn’t exactly do the maneuver justice.
Jalen Hurts hilariously botches catch at NFL Pro Bowl
In Sunday’s NFL Pro Bowl, Hurts took the snap, flipped the ball to his teammate, and leaked out for a wide-open look downfield. Alas, the star quarterback showed fans why he makes millions throwing the football — not catching it.
In a throw that was a tad high, Hurts mistimed his jump and hardly got his fingertips on the football.
You could see the smile on his face before Hurts’ feet ever hit the ground. He knew that a steady dose of jokes would follow this hilariously botched “Philly Special.”
Fans on social media were quick to fire off memes, poking fun at Hurts for his inability to finish such an exciting trick play.
Lucky for fans, the Eagles will not ask Hurts to catch the football during the “real” games. And now we see why.
