NFL fans in disbelief over Skip Bayless’ choice for best quarterback
YouTube: Official Skip Bayless ShowSkip Bayless, as he often does, sent NFL fans into an intense debate online after naming his choice for the best quarterback in the league.
The quarterback position is widely considered the most critical spot on the football field — and perhaps in all sports. NFL teams with elite signal-callers tend to be playoff contenders more often than not.
Even with the upstarts like Brock Purdy, who come seemingly out of nowhere, the cream of the crop is firmly established atop the league. Any quarterback conversation begins and ends with three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs star has led his team to the AFC Championship Game every season as a starter, including four trips to the Big Game. However, as unbeatable as Mahomes and Kansas City have appeared in recent years, one quarterback has the upper hand against those Chiefs. And his name is Joe Burrow.
Burrow boasts a 3-1 career record head-to-head vs. Mahomes, including a conference-clinching victory in the 2021 AFC Title Game. The Bengals lost their most recent matchup with Kansas City, but fans have taken notice of Burrow’s near-perfect record against them.
Skip Bayless claims Joe Burrow is better than Patrick Mahomes
Skip Bayless, an often-polarizing sports analyst, chose the best quarterback in the NFL in his estimation. And to the shock of many, Bayless rode with Burrow over Mahomes.
He further explained this stance on FS1’s Undisputed. “The same way that Mahomes has San Francisco’s number — because he’s now 4-0 vs. them — Joe Burrow has had Mahomes’ number.”
“If Burrow stays healthy, it doesn’t matter to me who you give him. As long as he’s got Ja’Marr Chase, they are serious business,” Bayless remarked. “And when Burrow was healthy this year, remember they went to San Francisco, and he put on a clinic out there.”
Bayless spoke of Burrow’s track record in big games to hammer home the point. “He is capable of going into Arrowhead Stadium and winning because I saw him do it in an AFC Championship Game. He is capable of going up to Josh Allen and winning because I saw him do it in a playoff game.”
If Burrow remains healthy, Bayless believes Cincinnati is the biggest roadblock for the Chiefs’ three-peat attempt. And based on the Bengals’ performances in the playoffs, he might be onto something.
Either way, the 28-year-old Mahomes and 27-year-old Burrow are not finished writing chapters in their already historic rivalry. Some fans are already calling it this generation’s version of Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning.
