Who are the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL?
Associated PressThe quarterback position is often considered the most important spot on the football field. Some fans even call it the most crucial spot in sports. Here’s our list of the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL.
With the yearly uptick in the passing game across the NFL, quarterbacks regularly put up record-breaking numbers.
The veteran signal-callers have cemented their status, while a handful of youngsters are ready to usher in a new generation of passers.
Here at Dexerto Sports, we have compiled a list of the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL. Let’s begin at number one with a no-brainer selection.
Patrick Mahomes sits atop NFL quarterback rankings
1. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs)
Patrick Mahomes has taken his Chiefs to four Super Bowls in only six seasons as the starter, including three titles and three Super Bowl MVPs.
He is one of only three quarterbacks in NFL history with three SBMVPs, joining Tom Brady and Joe Montana.
Add in Mahomes’ two regular-season MVPs plus his absurd arm talent, and it’s easy to see why he is the consensus top quarterback in the NFL.
Mahomes is closer to being on the all-time Mt. Rushmore of quarterbacks than second place on this list. He’s separated himself from his current peers at the position.
2. Lamar Jackson (Ravens)
Lamar Jackson is a two-time regular season MVP and boasts a sparkling 58-19 record as the starter in Baltimore.
Aside from Mahomes, Jackson is the only active player with multiple MVP awards. He is only the eleventh player in NFL history to accomplish this feat.
Jackson’s prowess as a runner is nearly impossible to stifle. He set an NFL record for rushing yards (1,206) in a single season for a quarterback in 2019.
The Louisville product also has a Heisman Trophy under his belt. He continues growing as a passer each year, solidifying his place amongst the elite NFL quarterbacks.
3. Joe Burrow (Bengals)
Joe Burrow is another Heisman Trophy winner who entered the NFL with immense fanfare.
Burrow has already taken the Bengals to a Super Bowl, and when healthy, few in the league can match his arm talent.
The LSU alum flexes remarkable accuracy from within the pocket. He’s also a maestro at creating something out of nothing when rolling out.
4. Josh Allen (Bills)
Josh Allen is one of the most exciting quarterbacks of the 21st century. He blends deceptive athleticism with a rocket launcher arm.
Allen can sometimes struggle with accuracy, and he has yet to break through in the postseason, but the good far outweighs the bad.
Allen is a hassle to tackle as a runner, and when he’s clicking with the Buffalo pass catchers, there is no stopping the Bills offense.
5. Justin Herbert (Chargers)
Justin Herbert is a pocket passing specialist, but his time at Oregon showed how deadly he is as a runner.
Herbert burst onto the scene with the Chargers by posting a legendary rookie campaign. Since then, he has dealt with frequent injuries, sometimes hampering his production.
Still, Herbert’s sheer arm talent is remarkable, and he’s still growing as a processor. He is likely to climb higher on this list in the coming years.
6. C.J. Stroud (Texans)
After only one season in the NFL, C.J. Stroud lays claim to the number six spot in the current NFL quarterback rankings.
Stroud single-handedly transformed a directionless organization into a team that made the postseason and won a playoff game.
He earned Rookie of the Year honors and engineered multiple fourth-quarter comebacks in 2023.
As the roster improves around Stroud, his numbers will only go up. Interestingly, the top six quarterbacks in this ranking all reside in the AFC.
7. Jalen Hurts (Eagles)
Jalen Hurts checks in right behind Stroud, as the former second-round pick has become a dual-threat superstar for the Eagles.
He’s only a year removed from taking Philadelphia to a Super Bowl behind an MVP runner-up performance.
Hurts witnessed some regression last season, but he’s still a difference-maker out of the backfield and the best quarterback currently in the NFC.
8. Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars)
Scouts touted Trevor Lawrence as the best quarterback prospect in several years when he declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.
He hasn’t quite lived up to that billing, but Lawrence has grown exponentially since his dreadful rookie campaign.
The Clemson product can dice secondaries up from the pocket and terrorize defenders by scrambling when plays break down.
Consistency is Lawrence’s final piece of the puzzle. If he can add that to his game, it won’t be long before he shoots up the list.
9. Jordan Love (Packers)
Following the long-awaited trade of Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love assumed the QB1 mantle in Green Bay and didn’t miss a beat.
Love led the Packers to the postseason while ranking second in the league in passing touchdowns (32) in 2023.
He’s making good on the first-round investment by Green Bay at the 2020 NFL Draft, and this appears only to be the beginning for Love.
10. Aaron Rodgers (Jets)
Speaking of Aaron Rodgers, he rounds out the list at number ten overall. The 40-year-old is recovering from a torn Achilles suffered only a few snaps into his Jets debut.
Rodgers took home the NFL MVP award in two of his past three healthy seasons.
Although he’s facing an uphill climb, there’s reason to believe he will rebound strong for New York.
Rodgers is as accurate of a quarterback as the NFL has ever seen, and even at his advanced age, he’s worthy of a spot on the list.
