New Overwatch 2 path to pro explained: Weekly FACEIT tournaments, OWCS seeding, more
BlizzardFACEIT has unveiled Overwatch 2’s new path to pro system, so here’s an explainer on the new weekly and daily tournaments, OWCS seeding, and more.
Season 9 has brought a lot of changes for Overwatch 2, with a massive Competitive overhaul that changes how players will rank up from now on. And preceding it was also the announcement of OWCS after the Overwatch League’s closure.
With ESL FACEIT now stepping in to run the esports side of Overwatch, they’ve revealed their plans not just for the top level of OWCS play, but also for weekly and daily tournaments for all players to participate in.
So here is an explainer of what can be expected from the regular tournaments, FACEIT Elo, and OWCS seeding.
Weekly and daily Overwatch 2 FACEIT tournaments
Launching on February 15 was the first WASB (We Are So Back) Cups which are open to players of all ranks. The tournaments will be held through FACEIT moving forward.
The tournaments will have actual prizes for teams, with some regional tournaments giving cash for first place, while other regions giving out FACEIT Points which can be used to redeem prizes from the FACEIT Shop, and soon, Battle.net currency.
The first WASB Cups is scheduled to start on February 15, with tournaments for NA, EMEA, South America, and Oceania. The first tournaments will have Elo disabled, which means any rank, from Bronze to GM, can participate. However, the first tournaments will not impact your Elo.
Overwatch 2 FACEIT Elo
Just like FACEIT’s counterparts in other games, Elo is very important. Your FACEIT Elo will be determined based on your Overwatch rank. You can see the full table of how your Overwatch rank correlates with your FACEIT Elo below.
Your Elo will determine which FACEIT tournaments Elo-wise you can join, as some weekly and daily cups will have Elo enabled, pitting teams of similar levels against each other.
“The Elo system will be used as a key ingredient in providing you with a fair and balanced experience in different types of competitions on the FACEIT platform,” FACEIT’s blog post outlined. “And also serve as your personal compass indicating where you stand in terms of skill amongst your friends, your country, your regions.”
Overwatch Champion Series seeding
It was also revealed in the announcement blog post that FACEIT Elo will determine your team’s seeding in the upcoming OWCS Open Qualifiers.
“FACEIT Elo will be used to determine the bracket seeding. This way, no matter how many teams we have signed up, we reduce the likelihood of drawing experienced tournament teams against each other in the earliest rounds,” explained the blog post.
This means if you are a team of low Elo players, there is a chance you’re first match may be against a team of high-ranked teams, and vice versa.
