Overwatch 2 players slam Quicker Play limited-time mode as a “joke”
BlizzardThe Quicker Play limited-time mode is supposed to give Overwatch 2 players a fresh experience, however, it seems that the community isn’t too happy with it.
Overwatch is no stranger when it comes to experimental limited-time modes. Since the first game’s initial launch in 2016, devs have been giving players the opportunity to try out different ways to play the game.
There was even a point in time where hero bans were a thing. Some of the heroes on the roster would be greyed out for a week, meaning players could not select them regardless of how many hours they put in those characters. Needless to say, this didn’t last long.
Fast forward to 2024, Overwatch 2 players finally get to experience Quicker Play, essentially a modified Quick Play where objectives and respawns are significantly faster. Despite only being available for a limited time, it’s clear that the player base isn’t happy with it.
A player on Reddit has shared their frustration toward this game mode in a thread, starting it with a question, “Aside from ending Flashpoints faster, what’s the purpose???”
For those that aren’t too familiar with Flashpoint, it’s arguably the game mode that would usually take the longest compared to others, given that each team needs to fight and secure three points on a large map.
To elaborate more regarding issues within Quicker Play, they added, “It might as well be no respawn because the first one to cap is now 90% likely to win based on a single team fight, swapping barely matters, and if you DO SWAP, you probably won’t get a single ultimate.”
Normally, this wouldn’t be much of an issue in the regular Quick Play, but when everything happens so fast, it gets easier for a team to get snowballed after one fight – this seems to be the case that a lot of players agree in terms of the mode’s biggest problem.
“I hate it. You’ve basically got no chance of a comeback if you lost the first fight – winning feels just as bad because it’s so unfulfilling,” one user mentioned.
Another who agreed said, “Zero time for team strategy or synergy. Once you lose one fight, you are clawing and crawling your way to even get a 15% chance of potentially even coming back. Heroes without mobility might as well be considered useless.”
However, aside from the responses complaining about this mode, one user highlighted that “they’re just testing it out.” Seeing the community’s overall response and the fact that the game was only available for the weekend, the user claimed it surely wouldn’t be brought back. “It’s been a flop for sure,” they added.
