Overwatch 2’s “Quicker Play” to return in a new format next season
BlizzardNearly a week has passed since the limited-time Quicker Play game mode ended in Overwatch 2, and finally, players have an update regarding what they can look forward to next.
The limited-time Quicker Play mode in Overwatch 2 ended almost a week ago, but there’s no denying that some people still have nightmares from it. Players have even started slamming it as a “joke” due to how frustrating the mode felt.
For those who missed out, this altered version of Quick Play allowed players to respawn quickly, capture objectives faster, and basically experience turbo-speed matches as opposed to the regular Quick Play.
According to the Blizzard blog post, devs wanted to discover what changes players would enjoy for Overwatch 2, hence why they’re testing with new ideas.
However, due to the even faster-paced nature of this format, players were quick to notice a major flaw in this mode — especially once they’ve essentially lost the first team fight.
The reduced times meant that it gets easier for a team to get snowballed, considering how ultimates and hero-countering work.
Fortunately, it looks like players won’t have to worry about this mode haunting them any longer. Game Director Aaron Keller has given players an update regarding what they can expect for the future of this game mode.
In a post on X (formally Twitter), Keller said, “We learned a ton from the first Quick Play: Hacked. While we still want to try new things in QPH to make the game more fun, we won’t be running the Quicker Play version again this season. Based on feedback, we’ll make changes to the format before we bring it back next season.”
Keller also mentioned that the team is currently discussing changes regarding Payload and Pushbot speeds, spawn points, round duration for different modes, and others.
“I can’t guarantee any of these will stick, but we’re discussing a lot based on feedback from player experiences,” he added.
Rest assured, Keller also said the team has learned enough from Quicker Play and players can expect it to be brought up with a different mode.
