Overwatch player discovers interesting detail on Ashe’s new Overwatch League skins

Bill Cooney

Home and away skins for all eight of the new expansion Overwatch League teams are now available in game, and players have already discovered that Ashe’s character icon seems to be concept art of the character when she wears some of the new team’s skins.

Blizzard made the new skins available the same day as Ana’s Bastet Challenge went live, which also gives players a chance to earn a new Ana skin.

It didn’t take long after the skins were made available for one player to discover that something seemed off when using a new team’s skin.

In a post to /r/ConsoleOverwatch, user FreedomWilly shared a screenshot of Ashe’s player icon when using the new Atlanta Reign skin that looks like early concept art for the hero.

It doesn’t appear on any of Ashe’s other skins, and only appears to affect Overwatch League expansion team skins, which led some users to suggest it could just be a leftover placeholder.

FreedomWilly themselves said it reminded them of the hero portraits used in Overwatch all the way back during the beta.

The new Overwatch League expansion skin aer available to players for 100 OWL tokens each, and both home and away skins are available.

The player icons are most likely a placeholder, as suggested by other users, but it is definitely a weird find.

At any rate, the player icons should be fixed before the start of Overwatch League on February 14, but for now it’s sort of a cool little Easter Egg.
