Overwatch voice actor addresses how to properly pronounce Baptiste
The newest hero in Overwatch, Baptiste, is now available on PC, PS4 and Xbox, but the game’s community is still fiercely divided on how to pronounce his name.
According to his backstory, Baptiste is Haitian, where the official language is French, so a debate has arisen whether or not to pronounce the ‘p’ in his name.
The community is sharply divided into two camps, those who drop the p, and others who include it when saying the name. In an effort to bring people together, Benz Antoine, the voice actor of Baptiste, attempted to share his thoughts on the pronunciation.
Antoine has already said getting the role of Baptiste has changed his life, and he was clearly excited for the hero to debut on Tuesday, March 19.
As he sat down to test out the hero he voiced in Overwatch, Antoine took a few seconds to talk to fans.
“I think it’s about time I answer a question a lot of you are asking: to P, or not to P?” The voice actor said. “That is the question.”
“For me, the answer is simple,” Antoine said as he looked into the camera, before being unexpectedly cut off.
I’m about to play BAPTISTE for the very 1st Time but before I do…..@playoverwatch @blizzard_ent #blizzard #overwatch #baptiste #gaming #Haiti #hero30 pic.twitter.com/ycMpNKY0K6

The video could have been cut off by extremist pro-p or anti-p splinter groups, but more than likely it was just a great troll of Overwatch fans.
Voice actors in Overwatch have become full-blown stars with the game’s fans, and with the release of Baptiste, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to change.
Baptiste is now available on all platforms, along with a massive new patch that updates more than half of the heroes in Overwatch.
