Gears of War creator says Palworld “validates” his rejected pitch to Epic Games
PocketpairGears of War creator Cliff ‘CliffyB’ Bleszinki has claimed that he previously pitched a similar Palworld “Medieval Pokemon” game to Epic Games and other major publishers, but was rejected everytime.
Palworld quickly shattered various records since the game released, and sent waves across the whole gaming community due to its viral success.
The game which is described as “Pokemon with guns” has received glowing reviews from both players and creators, with no signs of slowing down.
Now, Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinki has expressed that Palworld’s dominant success “kinda validates” a similar pitch he made that was rejected by various major publishers, including Epic Games.

Bleszinksi posted via his official Twitter/X account: “Palworld’s success kinda validates my pitch that was turned down at Epic many years ago – medieval Pokémon with baby dragons instead.”
When asked: “How many pitches would you say you have had turned down?” The american video game designer claimed that “the dragon game was rejected at all the major publishers.
“And there was another project I started at Epic that was cancelled about a girl who could control the world at a molecular level – open world.”
Users further questioned Bleszinski, as one asked: “what did they say?” To which he simply stated: “It just…never went anywhere. I wanted to do it on mobile first.” The former Epic Games developer further revealed that “Epic owns the overall idea,” in regards to potentially bringing the idea back.
The record breaking success of Palworld has certainly caught the attention of all corners of the gaming industry. However, with The Pokemon Company having announced they will be investigating Palworld in regards to possible IP infringement, it will be interesting to see how it impacts the game’s future.
