To get Coal in Palworld, you’ll need to farm the resource from Coal Deposits in the desert by using a Pickaxe. Any kind of Pickaxe in the game will do but we would recommend using a Metal Pickaxe in particular as it will make the job faster.
It is fairly easy to craft a Metal Pickaxe in Palworld, you just need to gather a few raw materials and have access to a High-Quality Workbench. You’ll need Wood x20, Stone x15, and Ingot x5 to craft a Metal Pickaxe. In addition, you must have 2 Technology Points and have to unlock the Technology tied to the weapon.
The desert is a harsh environment so you’ll want to be prepared for an expedition there. The first thing you’ll need is some heat-resistant armor to avoid any penalties from the temperature of the location.
If you have a high enough base level and a free slot for another, we’d also recommend dropping a Palbox near the Coal nodes. This way you can travel back to your main base more quickly and deposit the Coal faster.
Coal locations in Palworld
Coal can be found in abundance in the desert region highlighted yellow in the below image. Coincidently, this is also the best place to farm High-Quality Pal Oil which you’ll also need to craft powerful weapons and items including firearms in Palworld.

Besides the desert, Verdant Brook is another high profile area where you can find coal in Palworld. (190, -41) and (291, -19) are the best coordinates in the Verdant Brook area to find coal where you can find up to eight ore nodes.
What is Coal used for in Palworld?
Coal’s primary purpose in Palworld is to be used for crafting Refined Ingots. These special ingots are a key ingredient in the crafting of guns like the Double-barreled Shotgun, Pump-action Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Rocket Launcher, and more.
To craft Refined Ingots, you’ll need to reach Technology Level 34 and unlock the schematic for an Improved Furnace. With one of these in your base, you can use one Coal and one Ore to create a Refined Ingot in the game.
