Pokemon fans split as Palworld player jumps to Scarlet & Violet

A Palworld player trying Pokemon Scarlet & Violet has split fans on whether Gen 9 deserved all of the hate it received at launch.

The success of Palworld has often been connected to a decline in the quality of the Pokemon series, causing fans to look elsewhere for their monster-catching fix. This has led to former Pokemon fans raving about Palworld, even though they both belong to different genres.

The question that fans are asking now is whether The Pokemon Company will respond to Palworld. Will we see a Pokemon survival/crafting game in the future, or will the house of Pikachu just wait and see if the Palworld hype dies down before unveiling Gen 10?

But what about the other way around? Palworld is on PC and Xbox, so there’s a chance that its player base has never booted up a Pokemon game. Will we see a reverse exodus, with Palworld fans shifting to the Pokemon series?

Palworld Drama explained

Palworld is attracting players to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

A user on the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Reddit created a thread about their experience of going from Palworld to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet and how it exceeded the expectations set by the reviews and general consensus, prompting some fans to defend the Gen 9 games.

“Not gonna lie. I’m not ready to say goodbye to the characters in this Gen,” one user wrote, “They blew all of Gen 8 out of the water and finally gave me the character depth I really wanted from the Gen 8 rivals. Despite it’s flaws, Paldea was amazing.”

“This has always been my review of SV…,” one user said, “It is a half baked, broken, poor preforming, buggy mess of a game; that is the most fun I’ve ever had playing Pokemon.”

Not everyone was so kind to Paldea: “Nah, this review was one of the few they were right about. Solid 6 is where this game belongs,” one user wrote, while another said, “6 out of 10 is completely appropriate when you compare this to Tears of the Kingdom or Baldurs Gate 3 or Spiderman 2 and not just to other Pokémon games.”

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet drew much negative attention at launch, mostly due to technical issues. Meanwhile, Palworld has many performance problems, but it’s also not being developed as part of the biggest media franchise in the world, so fans give it more leeway.

The Gen 9 fans are the ones who are willing to overlook the technical flaws, much in the same Palworld fans are doing right now. This means there could be an amazing game buried in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet if you’re willing to accept its problems.
