How to get Munchlax in Pokemon Go and can it be Shiny?
Munchlax is one of the most popular baby Pokemon in the franchise but getting one in Niantic’s game can be surprisingly difficult. Here is how to get Munchlax in Pokemon Go and if their Shiny variants are obtainable.
Known as the Big Eater Pokemon, Munchlax first appeared in Generation 2 as one of Johto’s many baby Pokemon that fleshed out several evolution lines.
In Munchlax’s case, it is the pre-evolution for Snorlax, a fan-favorite that featured on Ash’s first-ever team in the anime. In the mainline games, getting a Munchlax is typically straightforward but it’s not quite as easy in Pokemon Go.
To assist you in your quest to obtain Munchlax we’ve put together this guide on how to get one plus if it can spawn as a Shiny or not.
How to get Munchlax in Pokemon Go
Munchlax is a rare Pokemon that can only be acquired from hatching eggs. What makes Munchlax even more difficult to get is that it is only available during specific events.
The Big Eater Pokemon is currently available as part of the Road to Sinnoh event with it appearing in 2km eggs between February 19, 2024, and February 23, 2024. After this period ends, it is unknown when Munchlax will be available again.
Can Munchlax be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
Yes, Munchlax does have a Shiny form in Pokemon Go that can be hatched from eggs just like its regular variant.
While Niantic has never disclosed the exact odds, it is believed that the odds of hatching a Shiny from an egg is around 1 in 64, though this is often boosted during events meaning Munchlax’s Shiny has the potential to be more common.
