Update: GO Battle Day: Marill will get a second chance on Sunday, April 26. The event will last all day and during that time you’ll be able to play 7 GO Battle League sets, as opposed to the usual 5.

To celebrate the introduction of the GO Battle League leaderboards, Niantic created a special Marill themed GO Battle Day. However, it didn’t go as planned.

Issues were reported across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. These issues were widespread and ranged from the matchmaking not working, to rewards which couldn’t be claimed.

This stopped trainers from playing more matches and were therefore stuck wasting the event. With only a three-hour window to make the most of the rewards, trainers were understandably frustrated.

Niantic acknowledged the problems after the event and even alluded to a ‘make-up’ event. The problems were caused by servers issues in the EMEA region. “Please stay tuned for a future announcement regarding a make-up event. Thank you for your patience.”

What will the ‘make-up’ event be?

Whether this event will be another GO Battle Day of some form, or something else entirely is unknown. GO Battle Day: Marill was the first of its kind and Pokemon Go trainers seemed to take to the idea.

Marill, well Azumarill, is one of the best Pokemon to have for GO Battle Great League. The event gave Marill as a reward for every first and third win when playing a set under Basic Rewards and for every win when selecting Premium Rewards.

All of the above was in addition to 2x Catch Stardust for the three-hour window. On top of that, for the entirety of April 24, trainers were allowed to complete 20 GO Battle League sets, as opposed to the normal five.

Niantic will likely announce what they have planned soon. They are also expected to reveal details about the datamined Abra Community Day.
