The Pokemon CompanyAt least four employees at the Van Gogh Museum have been suspended after it was discovered that they reportedly stole Pokemon Cards during the popular exhibition.
When it was announced that Pokemon would be creating Van Gogh-style cards back in September 2023, fans were instantly obsessed. Players, collectors, and scalpers alike quickly headed to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and brought the sets instantly, causing plenty of disappointment from those who missed out. Since it was a rare set, many began selling them at much higher prices, with some cards pulling in around $100 on Ebay.
Many fans predicted this, and reportedly so did the employees working in the Van Gogh Museum as it’s now been revealed that at least four workers have been suspended “after exhibition misconduct as reported by Het Parool.
Multiple employees suspended for Pokemon Expo misconduct
As revealed by the Amsterdam news site (which has been translated into English), it states that “According to the museum, the employees, one of whom is said to have been employed for 25 years, did not adhere to the ‘procedures and codes of conduct’ for staff. According to sources, they informed visitors in various ways about when they could buy tickets. One employee allegedly embezzled a box of Pokemon cards.”
While the spokesperson for the Museum did confirm that it’s still an incident they’re working on, they have explained that one employee allegedly embezzled a box of the highly sought-after Pokemon cards, to ensure they were able to get hold of a set.
Others were quick to tell friends or others about how they could buy tickets, and clearly broke the code of conduct for the Museum for these Pokemon cards.
While the Pokemon Van Gogh exhibition has now ended, it’s clear its ripple effect has been felt throughout the world, with cards still being sold, and many doing whatever they can to get their hands on it.
