Pokemon Go fans overwhelmed by “brutal” Shiny Shaymin Masterwork Research
The Pokemon CompanyThe latest Pokemon Go Masterwork Research, Glimmers of Gratitude, has shocked some players with its “brutal” tasks for unlocking a Shiny Shaymin encounter.
Pokemon Go‘s latest Masterwork Research, Glimmers of Gratitude, offers players an opportunity to encounter a Shiny Shaymin.
Like other Masterwork Research quests, those who purchase a ticket will be able to unlock these special tasks, which players can complete at their own pace.
Only the first two tasks have been revealed so far, but many Pokemon Go players are surprised by just how “brutal” the first one is.
Pokemon Go Glimmers of Gratitude Masterwork tasks players with catching nearly 2,000 Pokemon
The first task of Glimmers of Gratitude requires players to catch a number of Pokemon from the first four generations. It sounds straightforward enough until you see just how many Pokemon you’ll need from each region: 492, a reference to Shaymin’s Nation Pokedex number.
That means players will need to catch a staggering 1,968 Pokemon in total to complete the first task, and that’s not counting any newer creatures they may encounter along the way.
This has some Pokemon Go players, like Reddit user DaydreamingDahlia, questioning their decisions. “I immediately regret my decision!” they said in a post with a screenshot of the tasks.
Still, others viewed the task more positively. “I really like the masterworks,it give me a reason to play and something to aim towards,” said one user.
“The Masterworks are the only research consistently worth spending money on, personally,” said another commenter, who also said the Shiny Mythicals and “long term” nature of the tasks both made the ticket worth buying.
Others pointed out that previous Masterwork Researches have also been brutal, with one saying “think the first one required you to send gifts for 30 or 60 days in a row and reach level 40. I’m still working through last years one … It’s not something you’re going to knock off in an afternoon.”
While Pokemon Go is often criticized for both the pricing and prevalence of its microtransactions – this month’s Enamorus raids being the perfect example – it seems the Masterwork Research tickets are worth the price, so long as you’re not too overwhelmed by the tasks.
