A new mysterious “wallet” item has appeared in Pokemon Go and players are confused about its purpose.

Pokemon Go developer Niantic is gearing up for an action-packed second half of the year for trainers and, as such, has been slowly releasing small updates for the game as a way to prepare.

However, players were left confused after the recent update dropped a new “wallet” looking item into the game – one that does absolutely “nothing” when clicked on. This, in turn, created greater confusion for the community.

In a new Reddit thread, trainers began speculating the purpose of the new “wallet” item. One of the leading theories is that it could be a precursor to DynaMaxing, a feature from recent mainline titles such as Sword and Shield that is yet to be introduced in Pokemon Go.

Dynamaxing is when players charge up a Pokemon, which grows exponentially in size and gets a huge boost to power, defense, and other stats. Dynamaxing a Pokemon only lasts a few turns, so striking while the irons are hot is important.

“It’s Dynamax and Gigantamax. They’ve been confirmed to be coming to the game, and it seems like we’re gonna find out more about them in the (hopefully) near future,” wrote one Reddit user.

The other leading explanation PoGo players have theorized is that it could simply be a “placeholder” for upcoming Raids and other events.

Some even claimed that they’ve seen the item appear before: “The last time that showed up, it revealed a new special research line. I think we got it in error, but one is clearly coming.”

Regardless, Niantic is likely to reveal the answer to the reason for this mysterious “wallet” appearing in the game soon, so be sure to check back in with Dexerto as we keep you updated on all the latest Pokemon Go news.
