After the surprise announcement of Shadow Kyogre coming to Pokemon Go, eager fans are already putting together builds, and there’s a good chance it will “surge ahead’ of the competition.

Niantic has just announced the Pokemon Go Taken Treasures event, introducing some big shakeups to Giovanni’s party, the Pokemon Go leader’s teams, and a new batch of Shadow Pokemon to contend with.

One major new addition is Shadow Kyogre, an even stronger form of Hoenn’s guardian of the oceans. Considering Kyogre was already a fearsome foe, its Shadow form is set to be a nightmare, and fans already can’t wait to use it in PvP.

Shadow Kyogre might “surge ahead’ in Pokemon Go PvP battles

In a Reddit post shared by Pokemon Go player backstroker1991, they detail the potential uses for Shadow Kyogre, as well as a brief guess at what the Shadow Pokemon boost will do to Kyogre’s existing stats. So far, it’s looking to be a beast, coming out far on top of other Water-type Pokemon.

However, it’s not that simple, as one comment adds, “rare candyXL is a problem.” Meaning, it’ll be tough to get enough candy to train a Kyroge up to the professional level. But tough doesn’t mean impossible, and players already know that rare Pokemon like Rayquaza still work well at Lvl. 40.

One comment adds to the excitement, saying, “Wow definitely time to use some super rocket radars.” While another person says, “I’m going to use mine against the Fire/Ground/Rock Grunts, those waterfalls are going to hit like a truck.”

Not everyone is as excited though, with one comment noting the lack of use for a mono-type Water Pokemon, saying, “I am struggling to think of a raid where I would actually want to use water type. Primal Groudon if it ever comes back I guess?”

Finally, a few players are mourning their favorite Pokemon getting lost in the shuffle, as a new champion pushes existing ‘mons down the rankings. One person puts it succinctly, saying, “Nooooooooo Swampert.”

While we’re not entirely sure what effect Shadow Kyogre will have on the competitive seen just yet, with those massive stats and the boost added to Shadow Pokemon, at the very least Shadow Kyogre is set to make a big splash.
