Pokemon Go players “devastated” after university removes PokeStops
The Pokemon CompanyPokemon Go players are upset that a California university has gotten rid of every PokeStop on campus barring one.
An essential part of the POGO experience, PokeStops constitute real-life landmarks that serve several in-game purposes. In fact, they’re the source of numerous items, including Pokemon Eggs, wild ‘mon, Field Research tasks, and much more.
And, fortunately, players can find PokeStops while visiting everything from art installations and churches to museums and college campuses.
These digital landmarks don’t last forever, though. One private university in California just robbed the community of a wealth of PokeStops.
Pokemon Go fans furious about removed PokeStops at university
A POGO player recently revealed in a Reddit post that their college campus, California’s University of the Pacific, has gone out of its way to remove every available PokeStop but one.
Without sharing too much in the way of concrete information, the original poster informed fellow players, “Our local university removed ALL but one Pokéstop on campus.”

According to another in-the-know Redditor, such a decision can easily be tracked back to the private university’s President. Students at the school plan on complaining, the user continued.
They explained, “As a reminder, this is definitely a direct result of the university’s president. I know a lot of students planning to complain directly to him.”
As of writing, it does not seem as though anyone is sure about why the school removed the Pokemon Go PokeStops.
Someone in the comments offered a possible explanation based on past experience. When POGO initially launched, the Redditor said the State House in South Carolina received droves of visitors using PokeStops and Gyms.
Complaints to city officials resulted in the POGO content being removed until then-governor Nikki Hayley wrote to Niantic in hopes of having the Stops and Gyms reinstated. They were, after all, good for garnering business and public interest. It’s possible that similar complaints led to the recent UOP changes.
